Our Hot Tubs are constructed using traditional coopering (barrel-making) techniques. The process is a true art form and involves handcrafting staves (vertical wooden slates) to be watertight. A highly specialised skill, coopers are most well known for producing oak barrels for the aging of wine. Instead of oak, Colonial Hot Tubs use Canadian heart cedar. The result is an excellent seal with distinctive and stylish galvanised or gold plated bands that hold the hot tub together without glue or nails. The interiors are hand sanded and exteriors coated with CD 50 stain. Depending on the tub size, 2 or 3 tanalised bearers are used underneath the hot tub.
